Iowa City Engagement Session – Old Capitol Museum

Having met and started their relationship together in Iowa City, the Old Capitol Museum was the perfect backdrop this Iowa City engagement session. We started their session exploring around the old art building – a really cool abandoned building on the Iowa campus. Afterwards, we made our way across the Iowa River to walked around The Pentacrest. The summer sunlight was giving all evening. It made it so fun to play with light and get creative. The golden hour lighting adds a nostalgic, almost cinematic glow, enhancing the softness and tenderness of their connection throughout their entire session.

Fun fact – Kaylee altered my wedding dress (Need alterations?). Once she got engaged she knew she wanted me to be their photographer. I couldn’t be more honored.

This Iowa City engagement session is shot on a mix of film photography and digital photography. Their personalities created an effortlessly, joyful atmosphere. I am a big believer in giving couples space for their true personalities and relationship to blossom. Kaylee and Sawyer took the space to be themselves, get comfortable and stay deeply connected.

Why Iowa City is the perfect backdrop for a timeless, elegant engagement session.

I don’t think Iowa City gets enough credit for the absolutely beauty that is the University of Iowa Campus. The grand, historic building and lush greenery contrasted beautifully with Kaylee and Sawyer’s simple outfits, grounding the session in both romance and elegance.

There was laughter, a few shy smiles, and a playfulness that allowed their session to flow freely and authentically. These moments weren’t about posing or perfection—they were about them, soaking in the calm, the warmth, and their love in the city they met that felt effortless and steady.

That's us on our wedding day. The part we loved the most? The big group hugs, the tears shed, the belly laughs, and getting to share all of it with our friends and family.

We're Olivia + Christian

We met in daycare and became the boy + the girl next door.

After my family moved from Colorado to Iowa, we met in daycare. A year later, our families just happened to move in across the street from each other in a new town. Call it kismet. After 25 years of knowing each other and 10 years dating, we couldn't wait to celebrate our relationship with our friends and family and got married on our family farm.
