The Heart of Downtown Cedar Rapids

Located in the historic Guaranty Bank Building in downtown Cedar Rapids, Eastbank Venue + Lounge combines a piece of the city’s history with a modern, urban feel. Originally built in the early 1900s, the building was renovated in 2017 to create a clean, versatile space for weddings, events, and celebrations of all kinds.

The venue features white walls, large windows, and an open layout that can be easily customized for different event styles. Polished concrete floors and contemporary lighting give it a modern and sophisticated look, while neutral finishes allow couples to make the space their own.

Eastbank offers both ceremony and reception spaces, along with built-in lighting and sound systems, lounge furniture, and flexible floor plans to accommodate a range of guest counts. It’s a stylish, downtown setting that brings together convenience, history, and modern design.

The downtown location is ideal and couples can stroll along the Cedar River or explore the surrounding streets for portraits. There’s inspiration around every corner, making it easy to document your story without the hassle of changing locations.

A Venue with a Story

What’s now known as Eastbank Venue and Lounge began as part of Cedar Rapids’ industrial heartbeat. The building first opened its doors in 1901, serving as a wholesale grocery warehouse before later becoming home to Smulekoff’s Furniture, a beloved local business that stood as a downtown landmark for generations.

The structure itself is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was designed with expert craftsmanship. It features tall pillars, clean lines, and has a modern sophistication. In 2017, the first floor was transformed into what is now Eastbank Venue, preserving its architectural character while creating a bright, modern space for celebration.

Why Couples Love Eastbank Venue

What makes Eastbank Venue in Cedar Rapids so special is how beautifully the space flows together. Featuring a ballroom, private suite, and adjoining lounge, the venue’s layout makes it easy for guests to move easily from ceremony to cocktail hour and into the reception.

From a photography perspective, it’s a dream. The natural light softens everything it touches, creating that gentle glow couples love in their Eastbank Venue photos.

It’s the kind of space that works perfectly with nearly any design, from minimalist and modern to romantic and classic. The architecture itself provides character, so you can personalize without overwhelming the natural beauty of the venue.

As a documentary-style photographer, I’m drawn to spaces that highlight authentic moments without overshadowing them. This venue offers room to move, mingle, and be fully immersed in the experience.

The Ideal Client Experience

The Eastbank Venue team is known for their high level of professionalism and care. They understand how details matter, from setup and vendor coordination to the flow of the evening.

Couples often appreciate being able to host literally everything, from getting ready, to ceremony, to cocktail hour, to reception, all in one location. Less travel means more time connecting with guests and staying present in the energy of the day.

When people feel comfortable and unhurried, that simplicity translates into more relaxed photos. A win for everyone!

Husband + Wife, photographer, artists, cat parents, travelers,
inspired by family, joy, and you.

That's us on our wedding day. The part we loved the most? The big group hugs, the tears shed, the belly laughs, and getting to share all of it with our friends and family.

We're Olivia + Christian

We met in daycare and became the boy + the girl next door.

After my family moved from Colorado to Iowa, we met in daycare. A year later, our families just happened to move in across the street from each other in a new town. Call it kismet. After 25 years of knowing each other and 10 years dating, we couldn't wait to celebrate our relationship with our friends and family and got married on our family farm.
