Wedding Planning Tips

Midwest Honeymoon Ideas – Iowa Wedding Photographer

There are SO many options for your after wedding celebration! But what if you want to keep it a little more low key and not quite so extravagant? I’m giving you my favorite “local” getaways that are just a quick
road trip away!

Decorah High Point Cabins

Settled just 25 minutes away from Decorah, these cabins are the perfect getaway spot for a short weekend or a long stay overlooking the rolling hills of the Upper Iowa River. Stay in the Magnolia Cabin and enjoy a quiet night in the hottub after a day of kayaking, fishing, and exploring the local landscapes. Don’t forget to stop at our favorite brewery, Pulpit Rock!

Chicago/Minneapolis

Spend a week in the city! One of the best parts of being in Cedar Rapids is the proximity we have to some pretty stellar cities. Chicago and Minneapolis are some of my favorite cities to visit. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along Chicago’s Navy Pier and end it with a ride on the ferris wheel. Splurge a little and stay in this beautiful high rise overlooking Grant Park. My favorite part of Minneapolis, is Uptown. There are so many restaurants and places to see. Stay in this quaint apartment right in the heart of it all. Take some quality time together and head over to Chain of Lakes for a picnic and an afternoon on the water.

Table Rock Lake

My family and I visited Table Rock Lake a couple of years ago! A bit further south than Lake of the Ozarks, it’s the perfect getaway for a couple! We stayed in the Tall Pines Cabins nestled in the woods and right next to a disc golf course with lots of trails for an afternoon hike. There is a local shooting range if you’re into that and a great spa nearby. We spent the entire day at Big Cedar Lodge (also a great place to stay!) getting massages and enjoying their spa!

Door County

This is a place near and dear to our hearts! It was the first vacation/road trip Christian and I ever went on! We went tent camping at Wagon Trail Campground in Ellison Bay. During the day, we would make our way exploring the area. One of our favorite stops was visiting the Cana Island Light Station where we got to walk in the lake in order to get to it! We also made our way over to Sister Bay and enjoyed an afternoon on Pebble Beach eating ice cream.

Each of these places are just a quick road trip away and offer the laid back, easy going vibes our couples love!
